Spotify has announced a new verification system designed to help users distinguish between human artists and AI-generated music as synthetic content continues to grow across streaming platforms.
The Swedish streaming company will roll out a “Verified by Spotify” badge, represented by a green checkmark, on artist profiles and in search results in the coming weeks. The badge will indicate that an artist has been reviewed and meets Spotify’s authenticity standards.
According to the company, eligibility for verification will require artists to demonstrate consistent listener engagement, comply with platform rules, and maintain a credible presence beyond streaming services.
To earn verification, artists must demonstrate sustained listener engagement, comply with Spotify’s platform rules, and show a genuine presence both on and off the platform such as through concert dates, merchandise activity, and linked social media accounts; profiles primarily associated with AI-generated music or AI-created personas will not qualify for the badge.
Spotify stated that the initiative is intended to enhance transparency and strengthen user trust in an increasingly AI-influenced music ecosystem.
The company added that more than 99% of frequently searched artists are expected to be verified at launch, representing hundreds of thousands of musicians globally, many of whom are independent creators.
In addition to the verification badge, Spotify will introduce an updated artist information section across all profiles.
The feature will provide users with details such as career milestones, release history, and performance activity, offering a broader view of an artist’s professional background.
