Istanbul's contemporary art scene has a new fixture dedicated exclusively to lens-based media.
The independent art platform ArtRedCo launched the inaugural edition of "The Art of Photography" Istanbul, a series designed to highlight current photographic productions through annual themed exhibitions.
The debut exhibition, titled "Rooms," occupies the historic Mesrutiyet 76 building in Sishane. Curators utilized the multi-layered architecture of the venue to assign individual rooms to specific artists.
This structural choice allows each participant to establish a private narrative space. By isolating different aesthetic approaches within separate rooms, the exhibition showcases the pluralistic nature of photography under a single roof.
The organizers intend for the platform to be a long-term project. Beyond the physical display, ArtRedCo plans to expand the series with side events that discuss contemporary issues within the discipline.
This initiative aims to strengthen the position of photography within the broader context of contemporary art in Türkiye.
The exhibition features a broad selection of artists from different generations.
The lineup includes internationally recognized names and local figures:
Other participating artists include Ali Bilge Akkaya, Berge Arabian, Can Kabba, Cemal Emden, Cihan Oncu, Denef Huvaj, Ece Nur Saygin, Emre Baykal, Gokay Catak, Kerem Kaplangi, Lale Tara, Mustafa Boga, Reha Arcan, Reyhan Mente, Sami Kisaoglu, and Suzan Pektas.
Hulya Kizilirmak founded ArtRedCo in 2024 as an independent platform to support the production and interaction processes of artists.
The platform develops collaborations in the contemporary art field through exhibitions and publishing projects.
According to ArtRedCo, the "Rooms" exhibition aims to open up space for new forms of narrative and encourages viewers to rethink the role of photography.
The exhibition is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until April 14, 2026.
