'The Pitt' leads 2026 Emmy nominations as 'Hacks' sets comedy record

The list of nominees for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards has been announced, with HBO Max’s medical drama The Pitt leading this year’s race, followed closely by the comedy series “Hacks.”

This year’s ceremony of America's most coveted TV honors will take place on Sept. 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The event will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay and will air live on NBC and stream on Peacock.

‘The Pitt’ dominates as new shows make a strong debut

“The Pitt,” the HBO Max medical drama, emerged as the biggest contender of the year, receiving nominations across major categories, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor for Noah Wyle.

“Hacks,” starring Jean Smart, followed with 24 nominations, including recognition for its final season. The series’ performance broke the previous comedy nomination record, surpassing the 23 nominations achieved by “The Bear” and “The Studio” in previous years.

Other major nominees included Apple TV+’s “Pluribus” with 18 nominations and “Widow’s Bay” with 19 nominations, marking a strong year for new television releases.

Among actors, Noah Wyle, Jean Smart, Rhea Seehorn, Sterling K. Brown, Gary Oldman, and Zendaya were among the notable nominees recognized across major acting categories.

Streaming services and premium networks continued to dominate the Emmy race. HBO Max led all platforms with 122 nominations, followed by Netflix with 111 nominations, highlighting the growing influence of streaming platforms in television awards.

Apple TV+ also had a strong showing, with several of its new series earning major recognition, including “Pluribus,” “Widow’s Bay,” and other contenders.
