The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has completed the restoration of Sultan Abdulhamid II’s historic water fountain in the Baakline area of Mount Lebanon Governorate in Lebanon.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, was attended by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Beirut Murat Lutem and Baakline Mayor Kamel al-Ghassini, along with several guests.
The water fountain was restored and rehabilitated through a joint effort between TIKA and the Baakline Municipality, according to an Anadolu correspondent.
During the ceremony, speakers highlighted the importance of restoring the water fountain—built in 1892—as a means of preserving and promoting Baakline’s historical and cultural heritage.
In his speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Lutem emphasized Türkiye’s approach to development cooperation with Lebanon.
He added, “In a spirit of brotherhood, Türkiye supports every initiative that contributes to Lebanon’s social, economic, and cultural development.
The Baakline Fountain, one of four fountains built during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II, stands as an important cultural symbol reflecting the significance of preserving the historical character of the region.
