Toy Story 5 has opened with $312 million worldwide, giving Pixar its biggest Toy Story debut to date and marking the largest box office opening of 2026.

The film earned $160 million in the United States and Canada during its first weekend, while international markets brought in another $152 million, according to studio estimates.

Pixar franchise opens bigger than before

The debut pushed Toy Story 5 past the previous franchise record set by Toy Story 4, which opened with $120 million. The result shows how strongly the series has held up more than three decades after the original Toy Story introduced Pixar's computer-animated storytelling to global audiences.

The new film also came in as the second-largest animated film debut in history in the domestic market, behind Incredibles 2, which opened with $182.7 million in the United States and Canada.

Global result strengthens billion-dollar expectations

Released 31 years after the first Toy Story film, the latest installment has renewed attention on one of Pixar's most recognizable franchises and built up expectations that it could go on to cross $1 billion worldwide.

The Toy Story series has already brought in more than $3 billion globally across its first four films. It has also received 11 Academy Award nominations and won three Oscars, including two for Best Animated Feature.

Disney and Pixar build on long-running series

Produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Disney, Toy Story remains one of the most successful animated film franchises in cinema history.

With its record-breaking opening, Toy Story 5, featuring franchise icons Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack alongside new additions Greta Lee and Conan O'Brien, has set a new benchmark for the series while giving Disney and Pixar the biggest theatrical launch of the year so far.
