Turkish actor Haluk Bilginer has praised his co-star Angelina Jolie for her humility and sincerity, describing her as “a genuinely down-to-earth person” with no trace of celebrity attitude, as he reflected on their collaboration in the 2024 film Maria.

Speaking during an appearance on the “MonarTalks” program, Bilginer shared his impressions of working alongside Jolie, emphasizing that she came across as warm, sincere, and approachable throughout their time on set. He highlighted that she did not carry any “star airs,” instead presenting herself as grounded and intellectually aware, while also noting that she stood firmly in what he described as the right place politically.

A career shaped by early self-discovery

Looking back on his own path, Bilginer explained that acting was not his initial ambition, as he had once considered becoming a chemical engineer or a doctor. However, this direction shifted during his teenage years, when he discovered his passion for performance while still in middle school, which eventually led him to pursue formal training at a conservatory.

He also pointed out that it had been two decades since he last gave an interview, using the opportunity to share advice with aspiring actors. He framed acting as a demanding profession rather than an easy pursuit, stressing that those considering the path should first ask themselves whether they could find equal happiness in another field. If the answer is yes, he advised against choosing acting, underscoring his point with the remark: “It is not a rose garden; it has many thorns. The first 40 years are difficult, after that it becomes a bit easier.”

Defining success through struggle and persistence

Expanding on his outlook on life, Bilginer described happiness as something that comes through overcoming obstacles rather than remaining in comfort. He linked this idea to a broader reflection on human existence, noting that people are uniquely aware of their mortality, which makes it important to value the process of living itself. He summed up this perspective with a striking statement, saying that “happiness is overcoming obstacles” and that one must, in a sense, “earn the right to die.”

A quiet personal life behind the stage energy

Turning to his personal habits, Bilginer portrayed himself as calm and even somewhat dull when alone, while explaining that he draws energy from being around others. Despite decades of experience, he admitted that he still feels intense nervousness before going on stage, although he has learned to channel that fear into performance energy over time.

He also offered a glimpse into his daily routine, noting that he constantly brews tea and considers himself a devoted tea drinker.
