Bosnian students showcase skills in growing Turkish language program

The Turkish language was at the forefront of a major educational initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as students competed in a comprehensive exam under the “My Choice is Turkish” program organized by the Yunus Emre Institute (YEE).

The program, designed to promote Turkish language learning, brought together 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade students from 20 schools across Sarajevo.

A total of 56 high-achieving students who had been studying Turkish took part in the final exam, which assessed their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

The exam was held at Edhem Mulabdic School in cooperation with the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Education. The top three students were awarded prizes and certificates, recognizing not only their academic success but also their dedication to mastering Turkish.

Turkish, strengthens cultural and educational ties

Speaking at the ceremony, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Sarajevo, Emin Akseki, emphasized the strong cultural and linguistic ties between the two countries.

He noted that the increasing interest in Turkish reflects deep-rooted historical connections, as well as expanding economic and educational opportunities.

Akseki underlined that learning Turkish offers students a significant advantage for the future, pointing to Türkiye’s growing global role.

He also highlighted that interest in the Bosnian language is rising in Türkiye, showing a mutual cultural exchange built through language.

YEE Sarajevo Director Mehmet Akif Yaman stated that the program carefully identifies successful Turkish language students and encourages them through such competitive exams.

He added that top-performing students will receive additional points in their high school placement process and also encouraged Turkish language education.
