The second edition of the GNC Türkiye Cinema Festival drew more than 777,000 people to cinemas across Türkiye on Sept. 26-27, according to the festival organizers.
The festival was held in around 1,500 cinema halls in 75 provinces. It was organized by the Cinema Association of Türkiye's Theater Investors (SISAY), with support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's General Directorate of Cinema.
Tickets for festival screenings were sold at a flat price of ₺90 (about $1.84) for both days.
This year's program offered 17 Turkish and international films, spanning comedy, drama, animation, adventure, action and horror, along with box office hits.
Serkan Gunay, SISAY's chairman, said the organizers were delighted to bring 777,000 viewers to cinemas over the two days.
He thanked the Ministry's General Directorate of Cinema and other industry partners for their contributions, as well as cinema workers and the audiences who filled the halls. Gunay also invited moviegoers to keep coming to theaters for the Turkish and international releases due out this winter season.
The festival is meant to strengthen cinema culture and support movie theaters. Organizers describe cinema not just as a way to consume content, but as a cultural experience that audiences share together in a theater. By making cinema easier to reach for people of all ages, they hope to help theaters stay in business for the long run.
Ahead of the event, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy invited everyone, especially young people and families, to theaters.
After the festival, he said in a social media statement that the ministry would keep supporting domestic film production, bringing quality productions to wider audiences and strengthening young people's connection to cinema.
