Türkiye has been elected to the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the 2025–2029 term, marking the country’s third consecutive mandate.
The election took place during the 43rd UNESCO General Conference, held in Uzbekistan, Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.
In a statement, the ministry said, “Türkiye, one of UNESCO’s founding members, will continue contributing to the realization of the Organization’s goals, mission, and ideals, as well as to international cooperation for the protection of humanity’s common values during its new term on the Executive Board.”
According to ministry sources, Türkiye will maintain its active participation in the organization’s decision-making processes and continue supporting efforts aligned with UNESCO’s objectives.
Composed of 58 member states, the Executive Board is UNESCO’s principal governing body, overseeing the organization’s implementation of programs and activities.
Founded in 1945, UNESCO promotes international collaboration in education, science, culture, and communication to strengthen peace and respect for human rights.
The organization works to foster mutual understanding, tolerance, and sustainable development by encouraging the exchange of knowledge and culture among nations.
UNESCO plays a key role in preserving global cultural and natural heritage through its World Heritage List and sets international standards in literacy, scientific research, press freedom, and digital ethics. Its headquarters are located in Paris, with more than 190 member countries.
