The new Arslantepe Hoyuk (Mound) Welcome Center, now open in the Battalgazi’s Orduzu neighborhood, invites visitors to walk through 7,000 years of history at a UNESCO World Heritage site in Türkiye. Groundbreaking took place in 2023 and the center became operational on October 4, 2025 offering a structured introduction before visitors head out to the mound itself.

A purpose-built gateway that sets the scene

Designed with references to Bronze Age settlements, the complex brings together simulation rooms, a panorama gallery, and spaces for exhibitions and public events.

It covers about 1,650 square meters in total, with roughly 1,330 square meters indoors, and was built with a blend of traditional and modern materials to support both durability and visitor comfort.

Storytelling through moving images and 3D scenes

Inside, cine-style video presentations lay out the site’s background and major phases so visitors can pick up the essentials before they step outside.

A dedicated panorama hall uses three-dimensional scenes to portray daily life in the region, helping audiences picture how communities once lived and worked on and around the mound.

From the Chalcolithic to Rome in one continuous thread

Malatya Museum Director Murat Ata underlined that the center helps visitors make sense of Arslantepe as a place with continuous settlement from the Chalcolithic Age through the Roman period.

He noted that the layout was shaped around visitor needs and supported by extensive digital and visual reconstructions, adding that guests tend to start in the center to get a clear overview and then tour the mound with greater confidence.

Built to raise the site’s pull for wider audiences

The mixed-material construction and flexible interior aim to serve both interpretation and events, with the broader goal of increasing Arslantepe’s appeal.

By guiding people through key eras and scenes indoors, the center sets them up to read the archaeology outside more easily and leave with a stronger grasp of the site’s long timeline.
