Hundreds attended the Ghana International Book Fair on Saturday as teams from across the globe, including Gofreebooks from Türkiye, participated in the cultural event.
Book enthusiasts, especially students from many schools in the country, filled the fairgrounds in a country where English is the official language.
The team of Gofreebooks presented classic Islamic books in 50 different languages at the fair. They also gave away books as gifts to students of Siddik Senior High School—one of Ghana's leading religious schools.
The students showed particular interest in the historical books and books from Hakikat Kitabevi, which were present at the Gofreebooks stand.
Türkiye is home to thousands of works written during the Ottoman period and in previous centuries.
Works on Islamic sciences are preserved in numerous historical libraries, including the Suleymaniye Manuscripts Library, the Nuruosmaniye Library, and the Beyazit Library.
These libraries house the original copies of classic works by religious scholars such as Imam Rabbani Ahmad Sirhindi, Imam Muhammad al-Ghazali, and Muhammad Amin Ibn Abidin.
Huseyin Hilmi Isik, who has worked on these works for many years, is known for his translations and offset printing, bringing Islamic classics off library shelves.
These books are published by Hakikat Kitabevi.
The books, each of them rich in subject matter and content, contain the fundamentals of Islam as written by famous Muslim scholars, and are offered free of charge on the website gofreebooks.com.
The site, which offers hundreds of years of Islamic cultural heritage free of charge, operates on the principle that "religious knowledge is not a subject of copyright," a principle held by Islamic scholars.
According to the principle, which has become a tradition throughout the Islamic world, especially during the Ottoman Empire, a fee was charged only if the buyer requested a custom-written manuscript from a specific calligrapher or if there were particular costs for paper and printing.
