A new digital exhibition space opened this week in Sanliurfa, southeastern Türkiye, to introduce visitors to thousands of years of history at one of the country’s most important pilgrimage and tourism destinations.
The "Urfa Digital History and Culture Island" sits in the historic Balikligol complex, known in English as the Pool of Abraham.
Officials said the site is a place of religious significance, and the new exhibit was designed to match its spiritual atmosphere and the city’s distinct identity. It uses digital displays to present the city’s heritage in detail.
The Sanliurfa Governor’s Office developed the project.
Gov. Hasan Sildak told reporters at the complex that he hopes the exhibit will encourage both Turkish and foreign tourists to stay in the city longer.
"Sanliurfa has a rich and ancient cultural heritage," Sildak said.
"We opened this space so that heritage can be blended with digital technology and presented to visitors in the best way. We created a visiting area that will captivate people, let them get to know Sanliurfa in the virtual world and leave with a pleasant memory."
Gov. Hasan Sildak thanked those who worked on the project and urged residents and visitors alike to see it.
