Tyra Banks has sued Netflix for defamation, saying the company selectively edited her interview for a three-part documentary about America's Next Top Model (ANTM).

The lawsuit says Banks' comments in the documentary, 'Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model,' were 'stripped of context and reassembled' to create what she calls a 'false and defamatory narrative,' according to NBC News.

The lawsuit claims Netflix used 'selective editing, deliberate omission, and surgical manipulation' to make it seem like Banks knowingly allowed a contestant to be sexually assaulted during filming and later did not remember the incident. The suit says, 'That narrative about Ms. Banks is a complete fabrication.'

Banks said she took part because she thought viewers deserved an honest conversation about the show's legacy, including its successes and flaws.

The lawsuit says only 16 minutes of her three-and-a-half-hour interview were used in the final version.

Sullivan's allegations

The lawsuit says producers edited Banks' answers to make it look like she was responding to claims from former contestant Shandi Sullivan, who said in the documentary that she was assaulted during the show's second season.

The suit adds, 'Ms. Banks respects Ms. Sullivan's perspective and the courage it takes for Ms. Sullivan and others to speak up.'

Banks is asking for damages for alleged losses, including harm to her personal brand and future business opportunities, but the lawsuit does not specify an amount.

Netflix did not comment, according to NBC News. Banks also says that online ratings for her Sydney-based ice cream business, SMiZE & DREAM, have dropped since the documentary was released.
