The UNESCO International Young Musicians Workshop, hosted by Kirsehir Municipality, commenced at the Neset Ertas Culture and Art Center with the participation of young musicians from Malaysia, Cuba, Georgia and Colombia. The event seeks to strengthen cultural exchange and international dialogue through the universal language of music.
In his opening address, Kirsehir Mayor Selahattin Ekicioglu reaffirmed the city’s dedication to upholding its commitments to UNESCO and to sustaining its recognition as a City of Music.
“We are proud to renew and maintain our UNESCO Music City title. Together with our guests from fellow UNESCO music cities, including Sanliurfa, we will continue to advance the spirit of unity and creativity that music inspires,” he said.
Professor Kubilay Kolukirik, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Kirsehir Ahi Evran University, underlined the international significance of the event, noting that the participation of local and foreign young musicians contributes to the development of cultural diplomacy.
“Music possesses a universal power that transcends borders. It plays a vital role in fostering peace and friendship across the world,” he remarked.
Following the speeches, a panel discussion titled “The Role of Music in the Process of International and Intercultural Interaction and Transformation” was held, moderated by Associate Professor Senol Afacan, with contributions from Professor Sebnem Yildirim Orhan and international participants.
The workshop continues with music performances, interactive sessions, and cultural exchanges, providing young musicians with the opportunity to collaborate and learn from one another. The event is scheduled to conclude tomorrow with a closing ceremony featuring performances by both local and international participants.
