The international stage musical adaptation of "The Bodyguard," inspired by the 1992 Oscar-nominated film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, is set to make its Türkiye debut in Istanbul this September.
Produced by BKM (Besiktas Culture Center) in collaboration with the Zorlu Performing Arts Center (Zorlu PSM), the musical will run from Sept. 11-20.
The production will be performed in English by its original international cast accompanied by a live orchestra. To help local audiences follow the dialogue and lyrics, Turkish subtitles will be provided via translated text displayed above or beside the stage.
The touring production will bring its original stage design, choreography and live orchestra to Zorlu PSM, setting up the complete international version of the musical for its first run in Türkiye.
Based on the Oscar-nominated Warner Bros. film, the story follows Frank Farmer, a former secret service agent hired to protect music superstar Rachel Marron from an unidentified stalker. As the danger surrounding Marron grows, their professional relationship gradually develops into a romance.
Written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Alex Dinelaris and directed by Thea Sharrock, "The Bodyguard" first opened at London's Adelphi Theatre in the West End in 2012. The production later picked up four Olivier Award nominations.
The musical brings together many of Houston's best-known songs, including "I Will Always Love You," "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," "I Have Nothing," "Queen of the Night," "So Emotional" and "One Moment in Time."
The setlist also features "Saving All My Love," "Run to You," "Greatest Love of All" and "Million Dollar Bill," all performed live as part of the stage production.
