Magnitude 4.0 earthquake shakes Istanbul, epicenter in Marmara Sea

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck the Marmara Sea late Tuesday night, sending tremors across Istanbul and alarming residents, according to Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

The quake occurred at 11:36 p.m. local time at a depth of 8.16 kilometers, AFAD said in a statement. The epicenter was located 23 kilometers off the coast of Istanbul’s Buyukcekmece district..

While the tremor was felt throughout the city, there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

No negativity reported, says Istanbul Governor Gul

Meanwhile, Istanbul Governor Davut Gul stated that no negativity has been detected so far regarding the 4-magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Buyukcekmece in the Marmara Sea.

In a post quoting the post of AFAD, Governor Gul said, “According to AFAD data, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 occurred in Buyukcekmece in the Marmara Sea. We wish our citizens affected by the earthquake a speedy recovery. No negativity has been detected so far. May Allah protect our country and nation from all kinds of disasters.”
