Authorities in Mexico have confirmed that the bodies of two Colombian musicians who went missing last week were discovered outside Mexico City.
Singer Bayron Sanchez Salazar, known by his stage name B-King, and DJ Jorge Luis Herrera, professionally known as DJ Regio Clown, were found on Sept. 17 in Cocotitlan, a municipality in the neighboring state of Mexico.
Their remains were only identified several days later, according to the Mexico City prosecutor’s office.
The two friends had gone to a gym in the upscale Polanco district of Mexico City on Sept. 16 and failed to return.
Local media reported that investigators discovered a note from a criminal organization alongside their bodies, although officials have not released further details.
Relatives of Sanchez Salazar formally identified his remains on Monday.
Mexico’s federal security authorities stated on the social media platform X that the military will assist civilian investigators in the effort to bring those responsible to justice.
This collaboration comes amid increasing scrutiny of organized crime in the region.
Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro reacted strongly to the news, linking the tragedy to long-standing policies surrounding narcotics.
He described international criminal networks as being “strengthened by the stupid militaristic and prohibitionist policy called the ‘drug war.’”
Sanchez Salazar’s manager, Juan Camilo Gallego, explained that the singer had just performed in a Mexican club for the first time. Herrera, however, had been living in Mexico for several years.
Both musicians had tickets booked to fly back to Colombia on Sept. 17, the day after they were last seen alive.
