3.8 magnitude earthquake shakes Istanbul

A 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck Istanbul’s Silivri district at 2:24 p.m. local time, according to Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) data. The quake occurred at a depth of 8 kilometers (4.9 miles) and caused a brief panic among residents who felt the tremor.

Seismic activity reports continue to come from various parts of Türkiye, especially from the Marmara region, raising concerns across the area.

The Kandilli Observatory measured the quake slightly higher, reporting a magnitude of 4.1.

Citizens in Istanbul and nearby provinces experienced the shaking, with some reacting nervously to the short tremor.

AFAD provides real-time updates on seismic events, listing recent activity from provinces such as Izmir, Istanbul, Malatya, Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Duzce, Mugla, Tokat, Bingol, and Manisa.
