4.0-magnitude earthquake hits Türkiye's Balikesir on Sept. 7

A series of earthquakes struck the Sindirgi district of Balikesir province on Sept. 7, 2025, local authorities reported, the latest registering a magnitude of 4.0 in the evening.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the most recent tremor occurred at 8:08 p.m. local time, with a depth of 9.62 kilometers (6 miles) and coordinates of 39.17917 N, 28.16694 E.

Earlier in the day, two stronger earthquakes hit the district. A magnitude 4.9 tremor struck at 12:35 p.m., occurring at a depth of 7.72 kilometers (4.8 miles), followed by a magnitude 4.1 earthquake, AFAD reported.

The quakes were felt in Balikesir and surrounding provinces, including Izmir, though no immediate reports of injuries or major damage were confirmed. AFAD continues to monitor the situation and assess any potential aftershocks.
