4.2 magnitude earthquake jolts Türkiye's Balikesir 1 week after deadly tremor

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck Türkiye's Balikesir district, Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported Monday.

The earthquake occurred at 11:26 a.m. at a depth of 6.72 km.

Following the 4.2 magnitude quake, another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 occurred at 11:26 a.m.

On Aug. 10, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Sindirgi district of the province, claiming one life. After the quake, damage assessment studies in Balikesir and Manisa revealed that 1,036 independent units in 729 buildings were either heavily damaged or destroyed.

According to a report on Diken online, scientists are examining the Sindirgi fault after the 6.1-magnitude earthquake in Balikesir. One expert quoted by the outlet said, “We do not expect a new large-scale earthquake. We observed a two-centimeter oscillation in the Earth’s crust.”
