World leaders attending the United Nations COP31 climate summit in Antalya will receive specially prepared gift boxes featuring traditional jams and regional delicacies, bringing together the city's culinary heritage and environmentally conscious packaging.

Coordinated by the Antalya Governor's Office, the gifts include jams made from bitter orange, bergamot and Karyagdi pears, a local variety grown in Antalya's Korkuteli district.

The products will be presented in glass jars bearing the "COP31 Türkiye Antalya" logo and placed inside wooden boxes. Each jar will also feature a QR code providing information about where and how the product was made, along with its characteristics.

Antalya's culinary heritage takes center stage

The gift selection goes beyond traditional fruit preserves, bringing together several products associated with the Mediterranean region.

Alongside the jams, participants will receive tahini, a paste made from sesame seeds, produced using Manavgat's locally renowned golden sesame, as well as pekmez, a traditional concentrated fruit syrup, and pomegranate molasses from Side.

The selection includes products with geographical indication registration, a designation that recognizes their connection to a particular region and its traditional production methods.

Preparations for COP31 are underway across Antalya, where government agencies, private businesses and civil society organizations are working together to welcome officials, delegations and negotiating teams from 196 countries.

Recyclable packaging reflects COP31's environmental focus

Ebru Kocaacar, the second-generation representative of a local jam producer with a 37-year history, said the summit offered an opportunity to showcase Antalya and Türkiye while bringing attention to global climate action.

"We have prepared a selection for our guests that tells the story of products rooted in the ancient culture, history and traditions of both Antalya and Anatolia," Kocaacar said.

She added that environmental considerations had guided the preparation of the gifts, with particular attention paid to wooden boxes, recyclable materials, glass jars and metal lids.

The products, carrying the logos of the Antalya Governor's Office and COP31 Türkiye Antalya, are intended for heads of state and other summit guests.

Kocaacar said the selection was designed to reflect the agricultural abundance and culinary traditions of Antalya, the Mediterranean and Anatolia, while fitting in with the climate summit's environmental priorities.
