The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has released a new weather report for the city.
According to the statement, Istanbul is expected to experience snowfall lasting 2 consecutive days, with residents urged to remain cautious.
AKOM’s forecasts indicate that snowfall will begin during the late-night hours across Istanbul.
The precipitation is expected to intensify toward the early morning and continue intermittently over 2 days.
The statement notes that snowfall will be more intense in higher elevations and northern districts of the city.
Parts of the inner European side and elevated areas on the Anatolian side are expected to see snow accumulation.
Along with snowfall, a noticeable drop in temperatures is anticipated.
Nighttime temperatures may approach below-freezing levels, while daytime readings are expected to remain below seasonal averages.
AKOM warned drivers about the risk of snow and icy conditions.
Traffic congestion and disruptions may occur, particularly during morning and evening rush hours on main roads, bridges, and connecting routes.
Authorities advised residents to avoid using private vehicles unless necessary, opt for public transportation, and take precautions suitable for winter conditions.
Extra caution was also urged for the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic health conditions.
