Cappadocia is preparing to welcome a sharp rise in domestic visitors during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, as strong reservation demand signals an early start to the tourism season in central Türkiye.
Hotels and tourism operators across Nevsehir and surrounding areas report increasing bookings ahead of the holiday, with visitors seeking short cultural trips and outdoor activities.
The region, known for its fairy chimneys, underground cities, and rock-carved valleys, remains one of the country’s most visited destinations during holiday periods.
According to Türkiye Hotel Federation (TUROFED) Secretary General Yakup Dinler, Cappadocia is expected to reach near full capacity.
“This year, both Eid al-Fitr and the school midterm break have created movement in the region,” Dinler told Anadolu. “This shows that domestic tourists prefer Cappadocia both as groups and individual travelers. We expect to close the holiday with at least 90% occupancy.”
Recent data shows how quickly demand has increased in the lead-up to the holiday.
Teyfik Olmez, head of the Cappadocia Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association (KAPTID), said earlier that the region was already seeing strong demand despite cancellations linked to regional tensions.
He noted that Cappadocia’s year-round tourism appeal helps offset seasonal fluctuations, especially when coastal destinations have not fully opened for the summer season.
Dinler also pointed to this shift in travel behavior, saying that limited activity along the coast has redirected domestic tourists toward cultural destinations.
“At this time of year, Cappadocia is the best place,” he said, adding that travelers are increasingly choosing the region for short holiday breaks.
Tourism professionals in the region report that Cappadocia’s diverse accommodation options continue to attract a wide range of visitors.
The area offers:
This range allows both group travelers and individual visitors to plan short stays during the holiday period.
Ferhat Nuraydin, a tourism agency representative, said reservations have been increasing for several days and that the sector has completed preparations for the holiday.
“Domestic tourists create significant demand during holidays,” he said. “We continue to receive reservations.”
He added that weather conditions may affect some activities, noting that hot air balloon flights may not operate on the first day of Eid. However, alternative options such as safari tours will remain available.
The expected surge in domestic tourism reflects broader travel patterns during Eid holidays in Türkiye, where short breaks often favor nearby cultural destinations over longer coastal vacations.
Similar trends were observed in previous years. In 2025, Cappadocia saw occupancy rates exceed 90% during Eid, alongside a year-on-year increase in visitor numbers in the first months of the year.
Despite regional uncertainties affecting international travel flows in 2026, local demand continues to sustain activity in the region.
Tourism representatives now see the Eid holiday as a key moment that could help stabilize the early season ahead of the peak months of April and May.
