The summer heat has taken hold of Istanbul with full force. Temperatures are soaring above the seasonal averages, and experts warn that this week, the entire country could see a rise of 6 to 12 degrees Celsius (42.8 to 53.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
With the sweltering heat gripping the city, Istanbulites are turning to the seaside in search of a breeze.
On weekends in particular, beaches and coastal spots like Menekse, Florya, Bebek and the Adalar become popular escapes, bustling with swimmers and people seeking shade to stay cool.
The Ministry of Health conducts routine assessments of beach water quality throughout Istanbul and shares the data on yuzme.saglik.gov.tr.
Each beach is rated under one of five categories: “excellent,” “good,” “adequate,” “poor,” and marked as “new” if recently added to the monitoring system.
If you're looking for clean swimming spots near Istanbul, the Adalar are a great choice. Many of the beaches on Buyukada, Burgazada, Heybeliada and Kinaliada have been rated as having high water quality. Among the top picks are Nakibey and Yorukali beaches on Buyukada and Asaf Beach on Heybeliada.
If you're on the European side of the city, several beaches stand out for their water quality.
Among the recommended spots for swimming are Menekse Beach in Kucukcekmece (especially areas near the lifeguard tower, the pier, and the coastal park), Florya Gunes Beach, Gurpinar Beach in Beylikduzu, Buyukcekmece Public Beach, as well as the shores of Kumburgaz and Celaliye.
On the Asian side, Caddebostan remains a top choice for beachgoers. Suadiye Beach and Elmasburnu Nature Park Beach in Riva also maintain high water quality.
Additionally, the Tuzla Municipality Public Beach is listed by the Ministry of Health as one of the clean swimming areas in the region.
