Health Minister Samuel-Roger Kamba of the Democratic Republic of Congo has warned that the Ebola strain behind the latest outbreak has a “very high lethality rate,” saying there is currently no vaccine or specific treatment available for it.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kinshasa on Saturday, Kamba said the outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola.
He stated that “the Bundibugyo strain has no vaccine, no specific treatment,” and warned that its lethality rate “can reach 50%.”
Authorities also confirmed that the outbreak has so far resulted in at least 80 deaths.
