Erzurum, a historic province in eastern Türkiye with a well-established culinary identity, is continuing to advance its geographical indication (GI) initiatives to safeguard and promote its traditional food products.
The city has reached a total of 61 registered GI products, while 25 additional applications remain under review by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
The geographical indication process in Erzurum is being advanced through coordinated initiatives led primarily by the Erzurum Commodity Exchange in collaboration with local municipalities and relevant stakeholders.
These efforts are focused on documenting, standardizing, and legally protecting traditional recipes and local products that have been passed down through generations.
Beyond cultural preservation, the initiative is also designed to strengthen the city’s position in the national and international gastronomy markets by increasing the visibility of its unique food identity.
The city’s continued progress places it within the upper tier of Türkiye’s most product-rich gastronomic regions.
