Nestled among the Taurus Mountains in Antalya's Kemer district, Goynuk Canyon has become a refuge for local and foreign visitors seeking relief from the region's soaring summer temperatures and high humidity.
The canyon was formed over approximately 2 million years as flowing water gradually eroded the surrounding rock, carving out the dramatic landscape that visitors explore today.
Located along one of the key routes of the Lycian Way and within Beydaglari Coastal National Park, the canyon sits at the point where the region's forests meet the sea.
Visitors typically begin their journey by traveling around 2.5 kilometers (1.55 miles) into the canyon along forest and dirt roads aboard safari vehicles before reaching the main activity area.
Once inside, adventure-seekers can take part in a range of activities, including boat tours, swimming, canyoning, rope traversing and rock climbing, before reaching the waterfall that marks the end of the route.
The canyon's water temperature ranges between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius (50 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit), offering a sharp and welcome contrast to Antalya's summer heat, which can climb as high as 45°C.
Along the way, visitors have the chance to observe local wildlife in its natural habitat, including mountain goats, birds, butterflies, and rabbits that inhabit the surrounding area.
For those looking to see the canyon from a different perspective, a zipline course stretches for meters above the treetops, offering an aerial view of the pine forest below.
According to local guides, the site originally served only as a hiking trail before being developed into a full nature tourism destination.
Visitor numbers have grown steadily each year with around 30% of guests coming from within Türkiye and 70% arriving from abroad, including the United Kingdom, Poland and Russia.
The canyon's water is described as unusually cold and clean, noting that it seeps out through cracks in the surrounding rock formations and that the valley's shape creates a constant breeze throughout the site.
Visitors described the experience as unforgettable, pointing to the canyon's lush greenery, cold water, and the waterfall and cave that await at the end of the route.
