According to the latest forecasts from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, a significant heat wave is expected to sweep across the country this week, pushing temperatures well above seasonal averages. In many areas, temperatures are predicted to exceed 40 degrees Celsius, with Wednesday expected to be the peak of the heat.
Experts warn that even shaded areas will offer little relief from the intense heat. While most parts of the country will see clear and sunny skies, the northeastern regions may experience isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rain is expected in Kars, Ardahan, Artvin and the interior parts of Trabzon and Rize.
Forecasts suggest that temperatures across Türkiye will rise by up to 6 degrees Celsius above seasonal norms. This rise poses potential health risks, especially for the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic illnesses.
Winds will generally blow from the north at light to moderate speeds. However, in the southeastern part of Eastern Anatolia, wind speeds may reach 40–60 kilometers per hour at times. Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious due to the possibility of adverse conditions caused by strong winds.
Authorities strongly recommend avoiding outdoor activities during peak daylight hours. The sun’s rays will be so intense that even staying in the shade might not be enough to stay cool. Meteorologists caution that this summer could bring record-breaking temperatures.
