Türkiye’s national meteorology authority has issued new weather warnings as a winter system affects large parts of the country.
Official reports published on Sunday morning confirm snowfall in eastern provinces, heavy rain in western and central regions, and strong wind risk along coastal zones.
The Meteorology General Directorate released its updated forecast on Jan. 25 and warned that precipitation will intensify while temperatures remain above seasonal norms in many areas.
The main meteorology bulletin states that three provinces expect snowfall while eleven provinces face heavy rain. Sivas, Artvin, and Elazig will see snow. Rain warnings cover Edirne, Kirklareli, Kocaeli, Izmir, Mugla, Antalya, Isparta, Ankara, Duzce, Zonguldak, and Artvin.
A separate national report lists up to sixteen provinces under rain alerts, including Istanbul, Tekirdag, Yalova, Sakarya, Bartin, Canakkale, Aydin, and Rize. These overlapping lists show that the weather system stretches from Thrace to the eastern Black Sea.
Meteorology stated that temperatures in northern, western, and interior regions will remain four to six degrees above seasonal norms.
Rainfall will continue across:
Inland elevations will experience rain mixed with snow.
Meteorology issued a yellow-coded warning for Antalya as rainfall intensifies in the western Mediterranean.
Forecasts expect locally strong showers and thunderstorms in Antalya. Southern Aegean coastal areas face winds reaching 60 kilometers per hour.
Officials warned that these conditions may disrupt daily activities and travel.
The national warning system uses color codes to classify weather risks.
Authorities advise residents in coastal provinces to monitor updates, as wind strength and rainfall intensity may shift during the day.
Istanbul authorities released a separate city forecast through AKOM, the municipal disaster coordination unit.
The report confirms that recent snow and cold conditions have weakened. Rain will dominate the coming days, and no significant snowfall is expected until the end of January.
AKOM stated that rainfall in Istanbul will continue mostly as rain while skies remain partly cloudy with occasional showers.
Meteorological data shows that city temperatures now stay above seasonal averages. Expected lows range from 6 to 10 degrees Celsius, while highs range from 11 to 15 degrees.
Officials note that snow accumulation in the city center remains unlikely, although higher elevations may see mixed rain and snow.
Meteorology also issued a yellow-coded warning for the Marmara and Istanbul due to widespread rainfall. Officials advised residents to follow official forecasts as conditions remain changeable across the region.
