Istanbul’s metropolitan ferry operator, Sehir Hatlari, announced the cancellation of several key ferry routes today, March 4.

The company cited "adverse weather conditions" as the primary reason for the disruptions.

Official statements from the Sehir Hatlari website and social media accounts warned commuters that more delays or cancellations could occur.

"Our services may experience cancellations and delays due to unfavorable weather conditions," the operator noted in its public advisory.

The following routes are currently suspended or modified until further notice:

  • Bostanci-Moda-Karakoy-Kabatas Line: Ferries will not stop at the Moda pier.
  • Kadikoy-Sariyer Line: Full service suspension.
  • Istinye-Cubuklu Line: Full service suspension.
  • Sariyer-Eminonu Line: The 9:30 a.m. scheduled service was canceled.

Heavy rain, wind warnings for Türkiye

While Istanbul faces maritime disruptions and a high of 12 degrees Celsius (53.6 Fahrenheit) with cloudy skies, the Turkish State Meteorological Service has issued broader warnings for other regions in Türkiye.

A "yellow alert" is currently in effect for five provinces in the Black Sea region: Artvin, Giresun, Gumushane, Rize, and Trabzon.

Meteorologists expect heavy rainfall on the Eastern Black Sea coast, as well as in Ordu and Artvin. By evening, heavy rain is also projected for Batman, Mardin, Siirt, and Sirnak.

The weather service highlighted several risks across Türkiye for the remainder of the day:

  • Strong winds: Northern winds reaching speeds of 40–60 km/h are expected in the inner Mediterranean, southern Central Anatolia, and parts of eastern and southeastern Anatolia.
  • Avalanche risks: Authorities warned of potential avalanches and snowmelt in the steep, high-altitude areas of the Eastern Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia.
  • Visibility and ice: Fog and haze are expected in the Marmara region and western provinces, while inland and eastern regions face frost and icy roads during the morning and night hours.

Major cities show varying conditions, with Ankara reaching 9 degrees Celsius under cloudy skies and Izmir enjoying a milder 18 degrees Celsius with less cloud cover.
