Istanbul’s T1 Kabatas-Bagcilar tram line returned to normal on Monday after a technical fault disrupted services during the morning, Metro Istanbul announced.
The line, one of the city’s busiest tram routes and a key connection for tourists and residents moving between the historical peninsula and western districts, was temporarily operated in two separate sections because of the fault.
Metro Istanbul said earlier that services were running only between Kabatas and Beyazit, and between Yusufpasa and Bagcilar.
“Due to a technical fault on our T1 Kabatas-Bagcilar Tram Line, services are being operated between Kabatas and Beyazit and between Yusufpasa and Bagcilar stations,” the company said in its initial announcement.
Trams were not stopping at Laleli and Aksaray during the disruption. The incident occurred in Aksaray after a part located above the tram became caught on an overpass, causing the services to stop.
Metro Istanbul later said the line had returned to regular operation.
“Services on the T1 Kabatas-Bagcilar Tram Line have returned to normal,” the company said in a follow-up statement shared on its social media account.
The interruption affected a route widely used by commuters, visitors, and tourists, as the T1 line passes through major areas including Kabatas, Sultanahmet, Beyazit, Aksaray, and Bagcilar.
Separately, Istanbul’s TF1 Macka-Taskisla and TF2 Eyup-Piyer Loti cable car lines, which had been suspended because of adverse weather, also resumed operations.
