Magnitude 4.9 earthquake strikes off Türkiye's Datca coast

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck the Mediterranean Sea off Türkiye's southwestern Datca district in Mugla province on Wednesday, Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said.

According to AFAD, the earthquake occurred at 11:25 a.m. local time (08:25 a.m. GMT) off the coast of Datca, a popular resort area on Türkiye's Aegean-Mediterranean coast.

Kandilli reports magnitude as 5.1

AFAD said the quake was recorded at a depth of 8.39 kilometers.

The Kandilli Observatory, meanwhile, reported the magnitude as 5.1 and said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 8 kilometers.

Initial reports indicated no damage to residential buildings.
