Creator of MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, and bestselling author James Patterson's new novel, ''The Most Dangerous Games,'' has debuted at No. 3 on the New York Times hardcover-fiction bestseller list.

The book also topped Amazon's mystery, thriller, and suspense new releases chart, landed at No. 2 in action and adventure new releases, and hit No. 2 on Amazon's overall new-release rankings.

The novel follows a secret society that puts a thousand strangers through a deadly global competition, narrowing them to 100 to find "the One" worthy of a $1 billion prize. As brutal environments give way to backstabbing rivals, survival becomes the only rule.

Behind the collaboration

The book came about when Patterson traveled to Greenville, North Carolina, where Donaldson lives and operates his business, to brainstorm some ideas. While on a walk around the property, the two discussed the vision, officially greenlit the project, and co-developed the core concept.

From there, Patterson built out the plot, holding regular weekly sessions with Donaldson to go over drafts, give feedback, and sharpen the story.

Reportedly, Patterson took on a mentoring role, helping Donaldson pick up storytelling techniques beyond his YouTube background, including how to build suspense, shape characters, and keep the plot moving.

MrBeast and Patterson have taken to social media to promote the release. A YouTube short titled "Read My Book, You Could Win $1,000,000."

MrBeast, who has 515 million YouTube subscribers, has built his brand around rewarding followers with cash prizes for completing wild challenges, and he also hosts the Prime Video competition series Beast Games.
