Gavin Leatherwood has joined the cast of the upcoming romantic comedy ''It Happened One Summer,'' starring alongside Nina Dobrev in the feature adaptation of Tessa Bailey’s bestselling romance novel, which is currently filming in New York under the direction of Peter Hutchings.
Tessa Bailey’s New York Times bestseller has sold two million copies in the U.S. alone.
The story revolves around glamorous L.A. influencer Piper Bellinger, who is cut off by her family and banished to a rugged Pacific Northwest fishing town, following a viral public scandal. Her mission is to renovate her late father's rundown dive bar, forcing her to clash with Brendan—a gruff, routine-loving sea captain who expects her to fail.
Gavin Leatherwood joins the cast as Brendan’s charismatic and loyal best friend, Fox Thornton.
Author Tessa Bailey praised Leatherwood's charm for capturing the role's swagger, while director Peter Hutchings called him the missing piece who elevates the entire lead ensemble.
Bailey said, ''It wasn’t easy to find someone with the charm and swagger of Fox Thornton, but we did it, so thrilled to have Gavin on board.''
Hutchings described the actor as ''the missing piece."

The feature film is advancing through production with a script penned by Joseph Muszynski and ''The Hating Game'' writer Christina Mengert. Produced by BCDF Pictures,the project features executive production from Frolic Media alongside author Tessa Bailey and stars Nina Dobrev, Tyler Hoechlin, and Virginia Gardner.
International sales agency Embankment is managing global distribution rights, having already secured extensive worldwide pre-sales for the film.
