The Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) has released its latest weather forecast, warning of widespread precipitation and hazardous conditions across large parts of the country.

According to the assessment, Türkiye will generally experience partly to mostly cloudy weather, with intermittent rain and showers expected in the Marmara, Aegean, Western Mediterranean, Black Sea and Eastern and Central Anatolia regions, as well as eastern parts of Southeastern Anatolia and the coastal areas of Hatay.

Precipitation is expected to fall mainly as rain and showers, while sleet and snowfall are forecast for the higher elevations of northern and eastern Eastern Anatolia, the highlands of eastern Central Anatolia, and the Eastern Black Sea region. The Meteorological Service stated that precipitation may be locally heavy in the Eastern Black Sea, eastern Southeastern Anatolia, and southeastern Eastern Anatolia.

Warnings for heavy rainfall and natural hazards

MGM warned that heavy rainfall could result in flooding, water accumulation, landslides and disruptions to transportation, particularly in areas experiencing heavy snowfall. Residents in affected regions have been advised to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.

Risk of icing, frost and avalanches

The forecast also indicates a risk of icing and frost, especially during the morning and nighttime hours in eastern regions. Furthermore, avalanche danger persists in steep, snow-covered areas of the inner Eastern Black Sea region and eastern Eastern Anatolia.

Meanwhile, temperatures across Türkiye are expected to remain above seasonal norms. Winds will generally blow from the south and west, while northerly winds are anticipated in the Marmara and Western Black Sea regions, reaching light to moderate intensity.

At sea, storm conditions are forecast in the Northern Aegean, with near-gale winds expected in the Marmara Sea and the Western Black Sea. Maritime authorities have urged seafarers and coastal communities to exercise caution.
