Türkiye’s airspace began the new year with a record-breaking level of transit traffic, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said on Tuesday.
According to a written statement by Uraloglu, 2,177 transit flights crossed Turkish airspace on Jan. 4, marking the highest daily number ever recorded.
Citing data from the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol), Uraloglu said the figure surpassed the previous record of 1,906 transit flights set on Aug. 31, 2025.
“With 2,177 transit flights on Jan. 4, we reached the highest daily transit flight number of all time in Turkish airspace,” he said, adding that all flights were handled safely and efficiently.
Uraloglu emphasized the role of the State Airports Authority’s (DHMI) Air Traffic Control Center, noting its strong coordination and management capacity during peak traffic periods.
He said the center continues to provide uninterrupted, safe and high-standard air traffic services even on days when traffic reaches record levels.
The minister also noted that DHMI broke its own records six times in total traffic and eight times in transit traffic during 2025.
“By achieving another transit flight record in the first month of 2026, we have ensured sustainable and continuous progress in service delivery,” Uraloglu said.
