Türkiye's northwestern province of Balikesir continues to experience seismic activity following the 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck the Sindirgi district on Aug. 10.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that at 2:16 p.m. local time on Friday, a 4.1 magnitude tremor hit Sindirgi at a depth of 6.98 kilometers. Minutes later, the region was shaken again by a 3.9 magnitude quake.

The Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute provided slightly different measurements, reporting the first tremor at 4.2 and the second at 4.0.

Ongoing seismic sequence

Authorities said more than 4,000 quakes have been recorded since the 6.1-magnitude event on Aug. 10. Residents remain anxious as the seismic sequence continues, fueling fear and uncertainty in the region.

AFAD provides real-time updates on earthquake activity across Türkiye, with recent reports also covering Izmir, Istanbul, Malatya, Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Duzce, Mugla, Tokat, Bingol, Manisa and other provinces.
