American actress Selma Blair was arrested at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport following allegations that she physically assaulted flight attendants during a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles, with further accusations involving a police officer and a nurse.

The 54-year-old actress, known for her roles in "Cruel Intentions" and "Hellboy," was later released on bail after appearing in court in Queens, New York, on Monday.

According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department, officers responded after flight attendants reported a passenger engaging in physically abusive behavior during the flight.

Police identified Blair as the suspect and took her into custody after the aircraft landed. Two flight attendants reported injuries, and one was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Additional assault allegations emerge during court hearing

During Blair's court appearance on Monday, prosecutors also accused the actress of kicking a police officer involved in her arrest and a nurse at the hospital where she had been taken for medical evaluation.

The additional allegations were disclosed in a video clip of the hearing posted online. Blair faced assault charges before being released on bail.

Delta Air Lines addressed the incident in a statement Monday, emphasizing that the safety of passengers and crew remained its top priority and that the airline maintained zero tolerance for disruptive or unlawful behavior.

Blair's representative cites medical emergency

Following the arrest, Blair's representative said the actress had experienced a medical emergency during the flight that led to the alleged behavior.

"Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged behavior. She received immediate medical attention upon landing and is now in stable condition," the representative said.

Blair has previously spoken publicly about living with multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. She was diagnosed with the condition in 2018.

The representative did not specify the nature of the medical emergency.
