A red carpet look worn by Turkish actress Serenay Sarikaya at the ELLE Style Awards 2026 set off a wave of online claims after social media users circulated an allegation that her long red coat was worth $250,000, before a much lower retail figure was later shared by another account.

A head-to-toe red look that set tongues wagging

During the ELLE Style Awards 2026 ceremony, Sarikaya appeared in a fully coordinated red outfit that included a slit dress, matching makeup, red shoes, and a standout long red coat that quickly became the main focus of attention.

As the images spread online, the coat was initially described by some users as “polar bear fur,” helping the rumor gain traction.

Viral estimate put the coat at $250,000, tied to minimum-wage math

The most widely shared claim suggested the coat’s value was ₺10.75 million ($248,410.79), which posts also framed as roughly $250,000 and “384 minimum wages.”

For international readers, this reference points to the minimum wage in Türkiye, meaning the legally set baseline salary often used in local comparisons to show how large a purchase might be relative to everyday earnings.

A fashion-account post pointed to Blumarine and a far lower price

Soon after, the account “nurmagazins” reported that the coat was from the global fashion brand Blumarine, and shared a claimed sales price of about $3,294, which it also expressed as roughly ₺142,000.

In the same coverage, reporters were said to have asked Sarikaya whether the piece was real fur, and she replied: “Of course not.”
