Türkiye’s meteorology authority issued new weather alerts on Thursday as a large system moves across the country.
Forecasts show heavy rain, thunderstorms and a higher risk of flooding in Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa and several western provinces. Experts told Oxu.az that “the sky turns dark tonight” and advised residents to stay prepared.
Meteorology officials expect scattered downpours across the Marmara region, the Inner Aegean, the Western Mediterranean and parts of Central Anatolia. They asked people to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and to take precautions against sudden water accumulation.

The broader weather system has also placed 30 provinces under rain alerts.
These provinces include Tekirdag, Edirne, Kirklareli, Istanbul, Bursa, Sakarya, Kocaeli, Bilecik, Canakkale, Balikesir, Eskisehir, Kutahya, Kirikkale, Ankara, Yozgat, Kirsehir, Nevsehir, Aksaray, Nigde, Karaman, Konya, Mugla, Manisa, Usak, Afyonkarahisar, Aydin, Denizli, Burdur, Isparta and Antalya.
Thunderstorms are expected to be more common in western and southwestern districts.
Istanbul will reach 19°C with intermittent rain and thunderstorms. Izmir will stay partly cloudy at 23°C, while southeastern provinces remain dry and warm.
Drivers face dense fog and low visibility overnight
Meteorology issued a separate warning for dense fog between midnight and 06.00. This alert covers wide areas of Central Anatolia, including Ankara, Corum, Yozgat, Kirikkale and Sivas.
It also applies to interior areas of the Black Sea region, including Bolu and Karabuk, and high altitude districts of Erzurum, Kars and Ardahan.
