Three rare bird species have been documented in their natural habitat at the Karasu Wetland, located at the foothills of Mount Agri, Türkiye’s highest peak at 5,137 meters.
The wetland, nourished by waters descending from the mountain summit, is recognized for its rich biodiversity and as a significant habitat for both native and migratory birds.
According to studies conducted in the area, over 200 bird species have been identified, underscoring the wetland’s importance as a key site for ornithological research and birdwatching.
A team from Anadolu Agency (AA) captured footage of three species that are rarely observed in the wild, although they are not classified as endangered:
Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula)
The Karasu Wetland provides a critical habitat not only for birds but also for other wildlife, including mammals and reptiles. Its location along one of Southeastern Anatolia’s main migratory routes results in high avian activity, particularly during spring and autumn migrations.
