Severe thunderstorms are set to sweep across parts of eastern and southeastern Türkiye, prompting authorities to issue a yellow-level weather alert for seven provinces, as officials warn of potential flash floods, lightning strikes and localized disruptions.

A yellow alert, a warning level signaling potentially hazardous weather, has been issued for Diyarbakir, Elazig, Mardin, Siirt, Sanliurfa, Batman and Sirnak.

Officials are calling on residents in these provinces to stay alert and take precautions against rapidly changing weather conditions.

Widespread instability builds across country

According to the Turkish State Meteorological Service, much of the country is expected to experience partly to mostly cloudy conditions, with intermittent rain and thunderstorms affecting several regions throughout the day.

The unsettled weather is forecast to stretch from the Inner Aegean and inland Mediterranean areas to the southern and eastern parts of Central Anatolia, as well as the Eastern Black Sea, Eastern Anatolia, and Southeastern Anatolia. Additional rainfall is also expected around Hatay, Eskisehir, Ordu, and Tokat, along with the eastern districts of Samsun.

Localized heavy rainfall raises risk levels

Meteorologists indicate that rainfall could intensify locally in parts of southeastern Türkiye, particularly in the eastern section of the region, as well as in Elazig, Bitlis, Sirnak and Hakkari. These conditions may increase the likelihood of sudden flooding, waterlogging, and lightning-related hazards.

Authorities have also flagged avalanche and snowmelt risks in elevated and steep areas of Eastern Anatolia and the inland parts of the Eastern Black Sea, where snow cover remains significant.

Winds strengthen as temperatures edge up

Air temperatures are expected to rise slightly, increasing by around 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in northern and inland regions. Meanwhile, winds are forecast to blow mainly from southern directions, shifting in parts of Marmara and the northern Aegean.

In the Marmara region, winds are expected to pick up strength later in the day, reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour, raising the risk of localized disruptions.

Officials emphasize that residents should remain cautious as thunderstorms move in, particularly due to the combined risks of heavy rain, strong winds and lightning.

The advisory highlights the need to stay prepared for sudden weather changes and possible localized impacts.
