A Brazilian university student has chosen Turkish actress Afra Saracoglu’s acting for an exam project, and the work has been placed among the professor’s top three submissions, leading the class to watch and discuss her scene as a model of technique and emotion.
The student focused on Saracoglu’s widely remembered “coal shed” sequence from Kardes Cocuklari, a Turkish TV drama first aired in 2019.
The “coal shed” refers to a small storage room for coal, a cramped setting that heightens dramatic tension.
After reviewing the analysis, the professor ranked it among the most successful papers and began showing the same scene in lectures at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
This university division trains artists and performers.
In class, the professor highlights Saracoglu’semotional intensity, nuanced facial expressions, and overall command of the moment, treating the scene as a clear example of how screen acting can convey feeling and story without losing control of technique.
News of the assignment and classroom screenings has added to Saracoglu’s profile beyond Türkiye.
The development has also highlighted the worldwide pull of Turkish series, as fans marked the moment with celebratory messages across social media.
Born in Edremit and raised in Antalya, Saracoglu studied Comparative Literature at Eskisehir Osmangazi University and stepped into acting with the film Ikinci Sans.
She went on to appear in Kotu Cocuk, the long-running TV series Fazilet Hanim ve Kizlari, and films such as "Iyi Oyun" and "Ask Bu Mu?" before taking a role in Kardes Cocuklari.
Her later work includes Ogretmen, Yesilcam under director Cagan Irmak, brand partnerships with Hummel, Pantene, Cornetto, and Koton and the stage production Bir Barda Bir Gece.
