Birsen Kucukyilmaz, wife of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Algeria Mucahit Kucukyilmaz and chair of the Diplomatic Spouses Association in Algeria, inaugurated a rehabilitation center for children with cerebral palsy on Thursday.
The center was established through the initiative of the Diplomatic Spouses Association in Algeria, with financial support from Turkish companies operating in the country.
The center is in the southern Algerian region of Bin Talha and was established with the support of Turkish philanthropists.
Birsen Kucukyilmaz told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the center was “the most important project” undertaken by the Diplomatic Spouses Association in Algeria.
“As you know, these children and their families face very difficult conditions. As a physiotherapist, it has long been my dream to open such a center," she said.
"We wanted to make this dream a reality together with our Algerian friends,” she continued.
Mustafa Hiyati, head of the independent civil organization FOREM Association, attended the event and described the center as “an initiative supported by the Diplomatic Spouses Association in Algeria and the wife of Türkiye’s ambassador to Algeria.”
“The center will be able to accommodate around 20 cerebral palsy patients per day,” he said.
Lamia Mebrebes, the mother of a 13-year-old child with cerebral palsy, expressed hope that the new center will ease their burden, she said: “I hope our children will show at least 50% improvement through the physiotherapy services provided here.”
