The Turkish Ministry of National Education has launched an official investigation into Uskudar American Academy, one of Istanbul’s most prestigious private schools, following complaints from some parents about the presence of LGBTQ-themed posters on campus.
According to sources within the ministry, officials carried out an unannounced inspection after receiving reports that visual materials containing LGBTQ symbols and messages had been displayed in various parts of the school. The inspection focused on several locations, including music rooms, multipurpose halls, and classroom entrances.
During the inspection, officials identified and removed multiple posters and symbols believed to promote LGBTQ themes. These visuals were reportedly taken down from classroom doors and other student-accessible areas. The materials were documented and officially recorded in a written report as part of the ongoing inquiry.
"The presence of such visuals without administrative consent raised concerns regarding the adherence to national education guidelines," a source familiar with the matter said.
In a statement issued after the inspection, Uskudar American Academy confirmed that a visual was posted on school grounds without the knowledge or approval of the school administration. The statement added that the material in question has since been removed and that an internal review is underway.
According to Turkish media, "The school is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities during this process," the administration noted, emphasizing that further steps will be taken in accordance with the outcomes of both the internal and governmental investigations.
