Turkish actor Kivanc Tatlitug, whose Instagram and X accounts drew about 5 million followers, said Monday he deleted them simply because he felt like it, and has since bought himself 24 books.
Tatlitug, one of Türkiye's best-known television and film stars, shut down his accounts in August, prompting speculation about his reasons.
Speaking to reporters at the launch of his new film "Organize Isler: Karun Hazinesi" (Organized Affairs: The Treasure of Croesus), he said there was no dramatic or personal story behind it, contrary to what many had assumed.
"I wanted to, so I did it," he said, indicating that no deeper meaning should be read into the decision.
Since leaving social media, the actor said, he has turned to reading. He told reporters he bought himself 24 books to fill the time.
Tatlitug also named the books that have affected him most. They include Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius’ philosophical work "Meditations," Turkish novelist Hakan Gunday’s "Malafa," British psychotherapist Philippa Perry’s parenting book "The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did)," and "Between Parent and Child" by Dr. Haim G. Ginott.
