Sudan’s University of the Holy Quran and Islamic Sciences signed Wednesday an academic cooperation agreement with Türkiye’s Inonu University, Sudanese newspaper Suna reported.

The cooperation aims to strengthen and expand academic and cultural ties between the two universities, with a reciprocal distance education program in Turkish and Arabic.

University President Professor Mohy Eldin Abdullah Hassan described the agreement as an important step toward building and strengthening the university’s international partnerships.

He highlighted the strong Sudan–Türkiye ties and expressed his hope for Türkiye’s active participation in post-war investments.

For his part, the President of Türkiye’s Inonu University expressed his full readiness to provide all forms of support and cooperation to the University of the Holy Quran and Islamic Sciences.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ayoub Abdullah Ali, Secretary of Scientific Affairs; Chief Engineer Kamel Mosad Al-Mahi, Director of Engineering Affairs; and Abdel Monem Saleh Ramadan from the University of the Holy Quran and Islamic Sciences.

From Türkiye’s Inonu University, attendees included Vice President Suleyman Nehad Shad, Ahmed Turan, Head of the International Relations Unit, and Huseyin Bulat, Professor at the Faculty of Theology.

Cooperative Sudan–Türkiye academic ties

The agreement comes in a framework for mutual exchange between the two countries, following a previous meeting last march between the university’s president and Türkiye’s ambassador to Khartoum, during which academic collaboration and support for the university, including its Turkish language department, were discussed.

Another recent academic cooperation agreement was signed last April between the University of the Holy Quran and Islamic Sciences and Türkiye’s Bolu Abant University.

Earlier, in April, Türkiye’s Council of Higher Education (YOK) launched a “Guest University” initiative, allowing Sudanese universities affected by the civil war—Al Neelen, Al Butana, and Bahri Universities—to continue their academic activities in Türkiye at Inonu University, Nigde Omer Halisdemir University and Selcuk University, respectively.

As part of this initiative, a delegation from Al Neelen University, led by Rector Professor Elhadi Adam Mohamed Ibrahim, visited Inonu University.

During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to facilitate knowledge transfer from Inonu’s Faculty of Engineering and provide research support on a unique mass cancer case in Sudan.

These initiatives come in line with Türkiye’s humanitarian vision and commitment to supporting higher education in conflict-affected regions.
