The Turkish State Meteorological Service issued a yellow-coded weather warning for 11 provinces on Aug. 1 as strong northeasterly winds were expected to build up across the Marmara region.
The warning covers Balikesir, Bursa, Canakkale, Edirne, Istanbul, Izmir, Kirklareli, Kocaeli, Manisa, Tekirdag and Yalova.
According to the latest forecast, winds are expected to blow mainly from the north, while southern and eastern areas will see lighter winds coming in from the south.
In Marmara, northeasterly winds are forecast to pick up to between 30 and 50 kilometers per hour. Authorities called on residents to remain cautious and take precautions against possible disruptions caused by the strong winds.
Northeastern parts of the country are expected to remain partly or heavily cloudy, with showers and thunderstorms forecast along the eastern Black Sea coast.
Rain is also expected around Ordu, Artvin, Kars and Ardahan, as well as inland areas of Samsun, southern Iğdir and eastern Agri.
Other parts of Türkiye are forecast to remain mostly clear or slightly cloudy.
Meteorologists said no significant change in temperatures was expected.
Istanbul is forecast to reach 29 degrees Celsius (84.2 degrees Fahrenheit) under mostly clear skies, while Izmir is expected to climb to 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit). Ankara will see a high of around 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit).
