The Turkish General Directorate of Meteorology forecasts a split in weather patterns across the country for the upcoming weekend.

While western and central regions will experience mostly cloudy skies, eastern provinces face warnings for heavy rain, snow, and potential natural hazards.

Rainy conditions in eastern Türkiye

Meteorologists expect rainy weather to dominate Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.

Some areas in the southeast may see particularly heavy downpours. In the high altitudes of the Eastern Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia regions, authorities have issued warnings for snow and a high risk of avalanches on steep slopes.

Residents in central and eastern parts of the country should also prepare for icy conditions and frost during the night and early morning hours. Additionally, experts predict dust transport in the Eastern Mediterranean and Southeastern Anatolia.

Forecast for major Turkish cities

The weekend will bring stable but cool temperatures to Türkiye’s largest urban hubs. Most western cities will see partly cloudy skies with occasional fog or haze in the mornings.

  • Istanbul: Expect cloudy skies with temperatures ranging between 6 degrees Celsius and 13 degrees Celsius.
  • Ankara: The capital will remain mostly cloudy with a high of 15 degrees Celsius.
  • Izmir: Residents can expect partly cloudy weather and temperatures reaching 17 degrees Celsius.
  • Antalya: The southern resort city will be warmer at 22 degrees Celsius, though some inland western areas may see local showers.
  • Adana: Temperatures will hover around 18 degrees Celsius with cloudy intervals.

Weather warnings, safety measures

The General Directorate of Meteorology urges citizens to remain vigilant against specific seasonal risks.

Winds in the Eastern Mediterranean could reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour, potentially leading to disruptions in transportation or damage to infrastructure like roofs.

Key safety concerns for the weekend:

  • Avalanche risk: High snow cover on steep slopes in Eastern Anatolia and the Eastern Black Sea poses a continuous threat.
  • Driving hazards: Icy roads and frost in central and eastern regions require caution from drivers during late-night and early-morning commutes.
  • Visibility: Haze and fog may lower visibility in parts of the Marmara and Central Anatolia regions.

On Sunday, the rainy weather system is expected to expand slightly toward the west, affecting the southeastern Marmara and the wider Black Sea region. Temperatures in these coastal areas will likely stay between 12 degrees Celsius and 13 degrees Celsius.
