Zendaya combined two polarizing fashion trends this week, wearing split-toe tabi wedges by Maison Margiela with a vintage Prada leather coat while out in Paris.

The actor was photographed Thursday leaving the French concept store Merci. The outing came days after she attended Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2027 show in the city.

A 'Matrix' coat and a split-toe shoe

Her outfit started with basics: light-wash jeans and a white button-up shirt. She layered over them a long black leather coat from Prada’s Fall-Winter 1999-2000 collection.

With its stiff leather and futuristic details, the coat recalls the look of "The Matrix," the 1999 sci-fi film.

To match the coat’s edge, Zendaya chose black leather tabi wedges by Maison Margiela.

The shoes take their name from traditional Japanese split-toe socks and have been a signature of the Paris-based label since the late 1980s.

A summer trend carries into fall

Once considered avant-garde, tabi shoes have become far more common in recent years, and wearers now look for new ways to stand out.

Zendaya has worn the style before, including split-toe flats, ankle boots, and loafers.

Low, chunky wedge sandals were a major trend in summer 2026.

By wearing them in a heavier black leather version, Zendaya showed how the style can carry into fall.

The Merci visit followed Zendaya's appearance at the Louis Vuitton show earlier in the week. For that event, she re-wore an outfit she had previously worn on the press tour for "The Odyssey."
